Maintaining the Beauty of your Acoustical Ceilings

Generally, acoustical ceilings do not need maintenance; however, they need cleaning and replacing if the tiles are already broken or stained.

Here are some tips on how to clean your acoustical ceiling in order to maintain its beauty.

  • You should vacuum your ceiling tiles yearly with a soft brush. This can give a fresh look to your ceilings and your rooms.
  • Cleaning ceiling tile stains and marks can be a little messier. You can try an eraser or a “draftsman’s rosin bag.” This holds pieces of eraser that can remove light marks without damaging the surface when lightly rubbed.
  • Removing ceiling tile stain or watermarks are most difficult. The only inexpensive solution for this is a white shoe polish. It can effectively cover marks and stains.
  • Replace the ceiling tile if the stain does not come out. You need to take time to track down the exact ceiling manufacturer and tile so that your new ceiling tile would still look the same when placed side by side with the old ones. Be mindful that some ceiling tile is multi-directional. After installing the first piece, you have to see if it looks right and if not, try to rotate the tile 180 degrees.
  • For broken tiles, you need to remove several pieces of ceiling tile before you can replace the broken one. Find the easily removed tile first, and then work toward the broken tile. However, some installers put in the difficult-to-fit pieces first, so follow their example and work around the difficult tiles first.

These are just a few tips on how you can make your acoustical ceiling lasts. However, if it already has a lot of broken and stained tiles, it would be easier to replace the entire ceiling with new tiles.
